Creating abstract modern art and geometric conversation pieces since 2003!
My story is probably not that much different from other artists. I had a love of drawing and painting at a young age and would surround myself at family functions with paper, pens, markers and crayons. My love of art would follow me into my teenage years. I would notice in the galleries which artists and their work captivated me, but the thought never crossed my mind to attempt to create any of the controlled chaos I loved and admired from artists such as Kandinsky, Miro, and Picasso (to name a few). These were giants in the art world , well established and untouchable.
When I turned 21, I was a new father and working labor jobs to pay the bills. I remember seeing a program on TV about a young boy who was selling his abstract art work on a national level and making good money doing it. I remember feeling motivated (and a little jealous) when seeing this. If he could do that then so could I. But I was no cubist, realist, anythingist. What was MY style, and how could I be different and stand out?
I went out and bought 8 canvas and all the materials that I thought I might need and got to work. My first show was in a small cafe back in 2003 and I did very well. Not bad for a self taught artist with no title or affiliation. I had and still do have a great support system in my life through family and friends.
Fast forward 21 years (Yikes!) I have 4 children and my love of art and the creative process has only grown stronger. I would now label myself as a Geometric Expressionist, using calculations and tools to reach my end result. I love working on larger canvas and my primary mediums are acrylic, oil, and enamel house paints. I have had numerous shows in my 21 year career with art, from my hometown of Manchester NH, to Boston Ma, to New York, and back to Lenox Ma. My work is currently hanging in both commercial and residential spaces.
Thank you for visiting my site today. Please leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy Painting/ Matt
